Autism Awareness Expo
Autism Awareness launched its first expo in 2007. Now an annual event, the aim of this expo is to raise awareness of autism within the community, the treatment options available and a place where people affected by autism can come together to discuss the issues surrounding autism and meet with a variety of service providers.
In 2008, the expo was held at Sydney University's Seymour Centre, with close on 40 exhibitors showcasing everything from education, therapies, counseling, schooling options, to Applied Behaviour Analysis and books. Seminars ran throughout the day and lectures by some of Australia's leading health care professionals covered such topics as The first 100 days: From Diagnosis to early intervention,Anxiety and ASDs and Behaviour Strategies at Home.
As an annual event the autism expo presents essential information to those with a newly diagnosed child with autism, however seminar topics are designed to address a variety of issues all extended families with an autistic member may find of interest. Health and allied health care providers, teachers, students and those with autism themselves are alsos invited to attend these lectures.
The next Autism Expo is planned to be held in Sydney on Saturday 4th April, 2009.
